The TRI Program is responsible for implementing the Agency s obligations under the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act of 1986 to annually collect toxic chemical release information from certain facilities and provide the public with access to this information through electronic and other means. In order to meet this statutory obligation, the TRI Program has developed and operates the Toxics Release Inventory System (TRIS) and its associated Reporting Center. TRIS is the information system that EPA uses to manage the collection, processing, storage and public dissemination of the approximately 120,000 TRI forms that facilities submit each year. TRIS is used by the EPCRA Reporting Center to do all the work of receiving, processing, and disseminating the TRI submissions.
